Hi everyone,
I’ve been reading a lot about different types of electric bikes recently, and one thing that keeps coming up is mid-drive eBikes. Many riders say they perform better on hills and rough terrain compared to hub-motor bikes, but I’m curious how true that really is in real-world use.
From what I understand, mid-drive motors sit near the pedals and use the bike’s gears, which supposedly makes climbing easier and improves efficiency on long rides. Some reviews also say the weight distribution feels more balanced, especially for mountain trails or longer commutes.
At the same time, I’ve also seen people mention that mid-drive bikes can be more expensive and may require more maintenance because the motor works through the drivetrain.
For those who have actually ridden one:
Do mid-drive eBikes really make a big difference on hills?
How do they feel on longer rides compared to hub-motor bikes?
Is the extra cost worth it in your opinion?
Any reliability or maintenance issues you’ve experienced?
I’d love to hear some real rider experiences before deciding what type might be best for my next eBike.
Looking forward to hearing your thoughts
